PESHAWAR: Uplift of Malakand Agency promised

PESHAWAR, Jan 20: A 12-member delegation from the Malakand Agency called on NWFP Governor Lt-Gen (retd) Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai here on Saturday and apprised him of the problems being faced by the people of the area.

The delegation, led by a former MNA Mohammad Khan, comprised prominent political figures. They informed the governor of lack of supply of natural gas to Jolagano Killi, Allahdhand and Peerano Kili. They requested the governor to help them in resolving their difficulties.

The governor said that measures were being undertaken to provide natural gas to as many areas as possible.

He said that he was in close contact with the authorities of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines and efforts were already under way to provide gas to maximum number of people in the Malakand area.

The governor assured the delegation that efforts would be made to accelerate the pace of work for the provision of natural gas to all villages, including Allah Dhand, Thana and Pirano Killi on priority basis. The Governor assured the delegation to play his due role to further expedite work on the Nowshera-Mardan-Chakdara-Chitral road.

He also assured the delegation that he would contact the provincial government to look into the possibility of widening and upgrading the Dargai-Harichand Canal road, making it an alternate route for heavy traffic up to Charsadda.

He also assured the delegation that efforts were also under way for provision of electricity in the Malakand Agency.

Secretary to the governor Azmat Hanif also attended the meeting.—APP
