Teachers’ protest on 10th

Published January 8, 2007

SIALKOT, Jan 7: On the appeal of Muttahida Mahaz Asaatiza Pakistan, teachers of government schools will boycott academic activities in the province on Jan 10 in protest against non-acceptance of their demands.

Talking to newsmen at Daska on Sunday, PTU central information secretary Abdul Rashid Nagra said teachers would gather near Data Darbar, Lahore and march peacefully towards the Punjab Assembly Hall. He said their recent meeting with Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi held at Zahoor Palace, Gujrat, was a futile exercise following which teachers decided to take out peaceful rallies in the provincial capital.

He urged the government to bring salary and perks of contract teachers at a par with regular ones.

Mr Nagra said the government should take notice of undue interference of monitoring teams, comprising retired army men, in educational institutions.
