BAHAWALPUR, Dec 30: DCO Muhammad Ashraf has ordered an inquiry into the alleged malpractice, irregularities and corruption in the affairs of 17 citizens community boards (CCBs) falling in the Ahmedpur East tehsil jurisdiction. The scam reportedly cost the exchequer Rs160 million.

Sources said the CCBs in question got financial grants by presenting fictitious reports about the constitution of community boards and public welfare projects.

An inquiry committee headed by DO(C) Shariq Ansari with members DO (social welfare) Saeed Arbie, and ADLG Basharat Ahmed was formed to scrutinise the relevant record.

Under the official policy, a CCB deposits 20 per cent of the total cost of a project while the government bears rest of the expenses provided the project is aimed at benefiting the public.

But in this case, it is learnt that some individuals have been benefited instead of the community.

The CCBs whose records is being scrutinised include that of Jahangasht, Muhammad Akram, Farhan, Basti Namberdaran, Chenab, Arian, Awami, Khakwani, Uch, Sarina, Ahmeddin Missan, Sardar Ranjha Khan.
