MARDAN: Quick disposal of cases urged

Published December 23, 2006

MARDAN, Dec 22: Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court Justice Tariq Pervez has called for prompt disposal of cases. He was addressing the District Bench Bar workshop titled “Delay Reduction in Courts” on Friday.

Underscoring the need for dedication and commitment on the part of lawyers and judges, he said that hard work would not only save time but also help in reducing backlogs in the courts.

The chief justice said the judges were bound by law to dispose of the cases as early as possible. Criticising his compatriots for their “lethargy”, he said complacency in the courts could create problems for the judges, lawyers and litigants alike.

Highlighting the reasons behind the backlog, the chief justice said a clearheaded approach could reduce the number of cases in courts. Describing delays in court cases as shocking, he said these were sometimes caused by judges.

Urging the lawyers and judges to cooperate with the judiciary, he said this was vital for minimising the people’s misery.
