Woman says she did not kill ex-husband

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Dec 16: A woman, who allegedly killed her former husband in police custody at the Nowshera district court on Friday, was sent to the judicial lock-up by a local court on Saturday after she declined to confess the crime.

Naheed Akhter told judicial magistrate Aurangzeb Khan that she did not want to confess any crime.

She was arrested on Friday after she allegedly fired at her former husband, Ibrar, who had been brought to the court by the police in connection with a case pertaining to the murder of Naheed's brother.

Officials of the Nowshera Cantonment police produced the woman before an anti-terrorism court and requested the presiding officer that she was ready to record her confessional statement.

However, ATC presiding officer Shahjee Rehman Khan directed the police to produce her before a magistrate for recording the purpose.

The magistrate directed the police to leave the courtroom and then asked her that she was under no duress to record her statement. The woman said she did not want to confess the crime.

The court ordered that she should be kept in prison and be produced again after 14 days.
