Tourney starts with three walkovers

KARACHI, Dec 14: The Karachi Board Inter-collegiate Girls Basketball tournament got underway on a disappointing note with three out of five matches ending in walkovers in addition to scratching of two outfits who failed to show up at Sir Syed College court on Thursday.

According to the draws, teams of 21 educational institutions have entered in the contest.

Commecs College got a walkover against DHA Higher Secondary School, Guard Public College advanced when their opponent Khurshid Girls College failed to turn up while St Lawrence College were also through to the next stage as Government College Lines Area stayed away.

Government College ‘K’ block, North Nazimabad and Islamia College were scratched after both failed to turn up.

Bahria College Karsaz outplayed KMA College 24-0 in the only match that was played on the opening day.

Information gathered by this correspondent show that a college team can enter in an Inter-collegiate tournament by depositing a meagre fee of Rs50.

The Physical Education department of the Board of Intermediate Education has no system to penalise teams who do not report after submission of entries.
