Zubaida to get special award from LIDU

Published December 11, 2006

ISLAMABAD, Dec 10: Italian League for Human Rights (LIDU), a leading non-governmental organisation, will confer a special award on federal Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education Zubaida Jalal in recognition of her services for the protection of human and social rights.

The award is to be conferred at a ceremony to be held in Rome on Monday to mark the National Day of Human Rights of Italy.

Traditionally, LIDU has given the annual award -- Paolo Ungori Prize -- only to Italian citizens with a distinguished record of public service. This is the first time that the LIDU has proposed to recognise the services of a non-European in the fields of human and social rights.—PPI
