KHAIRPUR, Dec 3: Pakistan People’s Party Sindh President Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that the government’s move to construct Kalabagh and other controversial dams on the Indus River will be against people’s wishes.
Addressing party workers on Sunday he said that the construction of Kalabagh dam by force would be resisted by people.
He said that the president and the prime minister were running the country through a policy of divide and rule.
Mr Shah said that the government was trying to create differences among PPP and the political parties, which were against the Kalabagh dam but it would fail in its plans.
He said that Taunsa and other canals, linked with Indus River as flood link canals, were later raised to the status of regular canals, which were now drawing 8,000 to 10,000 cusec of water from the river.
Besides, irrigation water was also being stolen from the river and he had had got proofs to substantiate his claim, he said, warning that agricultural land in Sindh would be reduced to barren wastelands, if water theft continued.
He regretted that 1991 water accord was not being implemented in its true spirit and announced that PPP would step up its campaign against Kalabagh and other controversial dams.
FREED: Mohib Ali Bozdar and his servant, Juman Bhatti held hostage by bandits on September 15, reached their homes in Baker Bozdar village on Sunday.
A close relative of Mohib, Dr.Wazir Bozdar, confirmed release of the two and claimed that they were freed as a result of police operation against bandits.
The bandits had still six hostages with them.
UTP DIES: Naeem alias Dul Kalhoro, 25, an under trial prisoner, died in Khairpur central jail on Saturday night.
He was facing trial under charges murder. His body was handed over to his brother, Zahid Hussain, after post mortem.
