Nazim among three killed


GUJRANWALA, Nov 26: Three people, including a union council nazim, were shot dead by unidentified men at Awan Chowk here on Sunday.

Reports said the marriage party of Tassawar Awan, the cousin of UC No 74/37 nazim Hamid Raza Awan, was ready to depart to Lahore. While the vehicle of groom Tassawar had already left for Lahore. The nazim, his secretary Khurram Alvi and cousin Habib Awan were about to get on their vehicles when four car riders reached there and opened fire. Habib died on the spot while nazim and his secretary breathed their last while being taken to hospital. The motive behind the murder could not be known so far. Their bodies were shifted to the local DHQ Hospital.

It is learnt the deceased had killed his father, stepmother and four stepbrothers in 1992 on the issue of remarriage of his father. But the court had acquitted him. He had two wives and seven children. He was elected twice union council nazim. The marriage ceremony was cancelled after the incident. .—Correspondent
