LAHORE, Nov 25: Three-year-old colt, Chan, will be on trot to justify his presence felt in the Makarwal Coal Mines Cup when the 13th Lahore Winter Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday.
This son of Wathbat Nashwan out-of-Warrio, Chan had caused a sensation when winning four races including a hat-trick of victories earlier this year but ran off the frame in his sole appearance on October 15 last.
After the race, his owner Malik Ghulam Qadir was not satisfied with his performance. Most probably that was the reason he parted ways with trainer Haji Ghulam Sarwar and entrusted colt's training to Sohail Aziz, who has established himself a good trainer.
Chan's bad performance was attributed to a foot injury he suffered a couple of days before his run but the question arises who made him run in race in an unfit condition?
Chan's feet and legs look normal as they were before but with this kind of things, just wait and see. In racing opinions always differ because it itself is a sports of uncertainties and things clear automatically after some time and people come to know about it. Chan's rivals will be the filly Discovery, also trained by Sohail Aziz and the colt Challenger trained by Haji Fazal Hadi.
This will be the eighth and last event of the card, a class IV division I handicap race to be gone over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres.
The supporting event, the Khalid Bin Waleed Cup, a class V race over 1000 metres has fourteen runners barring last-minute withdrawals.
Of them three come into limelight on their recent performances. They are Quwat, Eid and Fidel Castro.
They should finish in the same order in this fifth race of the day.
The Khushab Cup, a term race for two-year-old colts and fillies (Maidens) to be contested over 1000 metres. The Lahore Race Club (LRC) chairman Tariq Aziz has fielded two colts and a filly, namely, Headingley, Araafa and Love Affair. Whosoever is the pick of trainer Haji Ghulam Sarwar, should fight with Mubashara.
This will be the fourth race in racing order.
A lengthy card of eight races will be decided featuring three cup races. The first race will be held at 11.30am.
