Elton John cancels Ashes trip

BRISBANE, Nov 24: The England cricket team’s woeful start to its Ashes defence has prompted legendary singer Elton John to cancel his plans of watching the Test at the Gabba, a report said on Friday.

The singer, a favourite of England captain Andrew Flintoff, had been expected to attend the Test match as he is in Australia for a concert tour beginning in Brisbane from Sunday.

But Australia’s Associated Press reported that Elton John's cricket plans had been stumped by England's ordinary show against the Australians in the first two days. “The singer's interest in watching the Test have been "diluted" by England's poor performance,” the report said.

The cancellation of singer’s visit to the Test match will certainly be a blow to Flintoff who performed a duet with Elton John at a charity function in London last May and is expected to attend the singer's concert in here on Sunday. Elton John’s song "Rocket Man" became a dressing room anthem for England during last year's Ashes win over Australia.—Agencies
