LONDON, Nov 23: A British court jailed a man for 15 months on Thursday for spitting at and insulting a white Muslim woman as she returned from a memorial service for victims of last year’s London attacks.
Charles Adams, 23, told Michelle Idrees, who was wearing Islamic dress, that she had ‘sold out’ her culture and that her four children would grow up to be suicide bombers, Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court in central London was told.
The defendant, who pleaded guilty to religiously-aggravated common assault and affray at an earlier hearing, confronted Idrees on a train on Aug 14 last year after watching a football match with his father and elder brother.
Judge David Calvert-Smith told Adams that he had committed a `disgusting form of common assault’ after Muslim convert Idrees answered him back.
Adams's father, Mark Raymond Adams, 50, was given a suspended prison sentence of 30 weeks for joining in the taunts.—AFP
