Robbers kill security guard

By Our Correspondent

GUJAR KHAN, Nov 16: A gang of robbers killed a security guard and injured another at the rest house of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in Aadhi oil and gas field, some 20km south of here on Wednesday night.

All the officials of the company who were present inside the residential block remained unhurt.

About 10 armed men barged into the rest house after opening the main gate and attempted to loot the security guard, Mohammad Yousaf. As the guard put up resistance, the culprits opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.

Another guard, Mohammad Jahangir who was away from the post leaving his own weapon with Mohammad Yousaf was hit in the head with a pistol, when he came to his colleague’s rescue.

According to Zafarullah Khan, the operation manager of the oil field, the dacoits took away two repeater guns from the post of the security guards and snatched Rs40 from a waiter of the rest house while leaving the spot.

Raja Taifur Akhtar, the subdivisional police officer reached the spot along with a police contingent and cordoned off the oil field to ensure security. Later, the adjoining fields were combed by the police, but no clue was found.

Saud Aziz, the district police officer (DPO) Rawalpindi, and Inayatullah Farooq, superintendent of police (rural) later also visited the scene. The DPO directed the DSP to constitute teams to work on various possibilities and motives of the crime.

He also ordered the police to get information about family background of the deceased security guard who reportedly hailed from Amral area of Chauntra which is notorious for enmity.

The DPO expressed dissatisfaction over the working of the private security agency and asked the PPL officers to employ some vigilant agency at the oil field. He directed the DSP to ensure maximum security around the oil and gas field.
