LAHORE, Nov 14: Writers, publishers and editors of journals and magazines staged a demonstration outside the office of the Postmaster General on Tuesday against nearly five times increase in overseas postage charges.

Speaking on the occasion, literary organisation Alao president Husain Majrooh said the post office had raised the charges for dispatch of magazines and journals to foreign countries from Rs30 to Rs144. He said the dispatch of magazines and journals outside the country had stopped completely as a result.

He said Governor Khalid Maqbool had promised to take up the matter with the postal authorities in a meeting with writers recently, but the charges had not been reduced so far.

He said Pakistani journals and magazines were contributing to promotion of Urdu in foreign countries.— Reporter
