Akram wins golf title

LAHORE, Nov 5: Mohammad Akram stunned all the professional contenders with a course-shattering card of eight-under-par-64 to claim Open title in the All-Pakistan Garrison golf championship at the Lahore Garrison's course on Sunday.

Overnight Akram was trailing third with aggregate of 138 while Imdad Hussain (134) heading the leader board followed by Shabbir Iqbal (135).

Akram ended up victorious because of his brilliance over the final 18 holes. Several birdies, one eagle, and no bogey speaks the commendable performance he displayed to steal the limelight. He fired birdies at the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 15th and 18th holes and eagle on 7th.

Imdad, who made two mistakes in the initial stages, finished runners up with an aggregate of 203.

Aadil Jehangir won the amateur event firing 68, 73 and 73 in three rounds. Shahid Khan (226) and Imran Ahmed (230) finished second and third.

Qasim Ali Khan won the net competition.
