KARACHI, Nov 3: A young woman was stabbed to death by her father in Landhi over her marriage dispute. Police said that Nadia, 19, and Amjad Khan solemnised in court on Oct 20. Her family raised the issue before a jirga where it was decided that Amjad Khan would pay Rs200,000 to his father-in-law Moin Gul.
Police said that Amjad agreed to their ruling and paid half of the amount before the jirga promising to pay rest of the amount later.
On Thursday night, Moin Gul along with his brother Ali Gul and son went to the house of Amjad Khan in Future Colony, Landhi.
When they demanded the remaining amount, Nadia stepped in cursing her father. Moin Gul took out a knife and stabbed his daughter.
An FIR was lodged by Amjad Khan against Moin Gul and others. Police arrested Moin Gul and Ali Gul in the case.
ACCIDENTS: Two men died in accidents on Friday.
Police said that Behroz Khan, 60, was crossing the road when a mini-truck (PY-0466) knocked him down near Aligarh Colony in Orangi. The victim died before he could be provided any medical aid, police said.
Police arrested the truck driver and impounded the vehicle and shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
On Korangi Road, a speeding vehicle hit a 60-year-old man early on Friday morning.
Edhi sources said that Iqbal was crossing the main road near Khayaban-i-Ittehad when he was hit.
He was rushed to the Jinnah hospital in a private vehicle where he died during treatment.
SUICIDE: A young man committed suicide in Shah Faisal Colony on Friday.
A duty officer at the Shah Faisal police station said that Shafqat, 25, hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his house in Golden Town.
Police shifted the body to the Jinnah hospital for legal formalities.
FIRE: A hotel worker died in a fire that swept through the roadside hotel in Surjani Town early Friday morning.
Police said Pehlwan, 45, was asleep in a roadside hotel in Surjani when fire broke out. Police said the victim could not escape out from burning hotel made up of wood.
A spokesman for the fire department said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
Another fire broke out in the electricity meters of Saba Apartments in Bahadurabad causing panic among occupants.
However, no casualty was reported. A spokesman for the fire department said that the fire was caused apparently due to a short-circuit.
The meters were situated at the entrance of the building, the only passage in the building.
