Boycott key to Younis’ county deal

Published October 31, 2006

LONDON, Oct 30: Geoffrey Boycott has been praised by Yorkshire chief executive, Stewart Regan for his role in bringing Pakistan batsman Younis Khan to Headingley. Boycott, who scored more than 32,000 first-class runs for Yorkshire, joined the county's management board in March.

"Without Geoffrey's invaluable assistance we would not have been able to make the deal," Stewart told Yorkshire's official website.

"It was through his contacts I was able to get in touch with Younis." Younis agreed to a one-year contract with Yorkshire on Friday.

Stewart added: "Geoffrey provided us with a list of players - and the top batsman on the list was Younis Khan.”

“A lot of people will be unaware of the contribution which Geoffrey has made towards securing Younis' services - the other members of the board and myself are extremely grateful to him."—Agencies
