Eswarah completes hat-trick of wins
KARACHI, Oct 29: Fancied three-year-old chestnut filly Eswarah justified her top billing by capturing Northern Dancer Stakes Cup to complete a hat-trick in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Running neck-and-neck in a pack of six contenders, she overtook the opponents after negotiating the bend and getting into straight to post three-quarter of a length win over Reyan King.
Saddled by S. Ehtisham, she was ridden home by jockey Arshad who was greeted by the holiday punters for his feat.
Finishing further two lengths behind was colt Captain Black and another two lengths away was filly Stormy Kiss.
Riding on a crest of a wave, Arshad, who had earlier galloped Maid’s Causeway home, added yet another feather to his cap when four-year-old bay colt The King Of Arab edged out joint favourites King Of Sanghar and Makina to land the Eid Millan Cup to end the day with a fine treble.
Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara’s two-year-old mare Pha Pha Kutni captured her maiden title when she registered a facile six lengths victory over Mida’s Touch to grab Youngster Cup.
Ridden by M. Manzoor she clocked 1 min 3 sec, the best time by a two-year-old this season so far.
Owner Syed Nadeem Anwar returned with a double by winning back-to-back races. Following triumph of The King Of Arab in the eighth, M. Yousuf sprinted three-year-old bay colt, The Arab, to five-and-a-half lengths victory over favourite Your Honour in the concluding event to create yet another upset.
The line-up was reduced to four following withdrawal of Velvet Green and Harry Potter before the start.
The two victorious horses were saddled by trainer Ramzan A. His contemporaries Ehtisham and Allah Judrio also shared the honours by saddling two horses apiece.
Second favourite four-year-old bay colt, Paidagir, with Ghulam Shabbir II astride, interrupted the winning run of favourite The Concord, beating him by half-a-length.
Installed favourite, six-year-old mare, Queen Of Awan, stretched her winning run when she beat chestnut Leo Again by four lengths.
Tom Cruise, Jack In The Box and Maid’s Causeway won the first three races as they pleased.
