CHICAGO, Oct 24: Chicago Marathon winner Robert Cheruiyot was expected to be released from hospital one day after tumbling inches from the finish line and slamming his head on the asphalt.
The hard fall left Kenyan Cheruiyot, who is also the reigning Boston Marathon champ, with a minor internal bleeding and a bruise on his brain.
Chicago doctors took no chances with the head injury as Cheruiyot underwent three CT scans and a number of detailed neurological exams.
He has also been told to rest for up to three months to give the brain time to heal.
“He's going to recover faster than the lion's share of patients with this type of injury,” Northwestern Memorial Hospital doctor Wesley Yapor said. “We feel that he's going to make a full recovery.”—AFP
