JI to challenge Musharraf’s book in SC

By Our Correspondent

OKARA, Oct 11: MMA MNA Liaquat Baloch made it clear on Wednesday if the PPP chairperson did not agree on the formation of the grand opposition alliance, the religious-party conglomerate would contact Mian Nawaz Sharif and ARD’s other parties to achieve the target.

The Jamaat-i-Islami has also decided to challenge the contents of President Musharraf’s memoirs “In the Line of Fire” in the Supreme Court for

which lawyers have been contacted.

Speaking at a press conference at the residence of MMA district president Dr Liaquat Kausar, he claimed that Nawaz Sharif had taken exception to Benazir Bhutto’s statement against the grand opposition alliance and this was the one-point agenda at a meeting between the two former prime ministers this week. PPP leader Amin Fahim’s visit to London was part of the plan, he added.

If Ms Bhutto would remain reluctant to go for the alliance, he said, the MMA would contact the PML-N, the ANP, the Pakhtoonkhwa Awami Party, the Tehrik-i-Inssaf and other components of the ARD to go ahead with the plan.

Answering a question, he said the apex court had taken suo moto notice of women rights bill and it would be a contempt of court if the government put up this bill in parliament. He said the alliance would pursue it in the apex court.

In response to another query, the MMA leader said Musharraf’s book was a challenge to the country’s integrity and the Jamaat-i-Islami would challenge its contents in the Supreme Court.
