PESHAWAR, Oct 6: Retired government employees held a demonstration in front of the Peshawar Press Club on Friday, calling upon the provincial government to release the ad hoc relief as ordered by the Supreme Court.
They said other provinces had complied with the court orders, but the NWFP government was yet to implement the decision.
Mian Ayub Kaka Khel, provincial leader of pensioners, and district president Abdul Ghani, who led the demonstration, said the government had announced a Rs300 ad hoc relief for government employees in 1997 and an increase of Rs100 was granted in June 2000.
They said that in spite of clear-cut orders of the federal government, the NWFP government employees were deprived of their right.
The protesters raised slogans for acceptance of their demands.
They also called upon the NWFP government to issue notification for teachers’ allowance immediately.—PPI
