GUJRANWALA, Oct 3: At least two people were killed and six injured when two rival groups indulged in an armed clash at Broki Gosaian village on Tuesday.

Reports said the groups headed by Cantonment board’s vice-chairman Sheikh Ejaz Hashmi and Ishaq Safdar Butt had an old enmity.

On Tuesday, some members of both the groups went to Cantt police station in connection with an inquiry. During the investigation, they exchanged hot words, and before they could enter a brawl, the police arrested six people belonging to both groups.

The remaining members of the two groups, on reaching the village, started crossfire in which Shafiq (35) of Ejaz group and Zeeshan (15) of Butt group were killed, while six people were injured..

When the injured were brought to DHQ hospital’s trauma centre, the groups again entered a brawl, during which some of the patients also received injuries.

The police have arrested 10 more members of the groups after registering the case.

RELIGIOUS HARMONY: Inter-faith harmony should be promoted at grassroots for the progress and prosperity of the country.

This was stated by speakers on the eve of the death anniversary of Tehrik-i-Jafria leader Ijaz Ahmad Rasul Nagari organised by a local law college.
