KARACHI: Police told to beef up security in Ramazan
KARACHI, Oct 3: Sindh IGP Jehangir Mirza on Tuesday directed all district/town police officers, SDPOs and SHOs to ensure the security of citizens during Ramazan at mosques, shopping centres and other public places.
Reviewing the contingency security plan for the holy month, he directed all district/town police officers, SDPOs and SHOs to set up police pickets in all shopping centres and increase patrolling in these areas.
He said that the picket in-charges should be directed to remain in close contact with shopkeepers of their respective markets.
He said that no police official should leave the duty point without permission of his officer.
Jehangir Mirza further directed to set up car parking areas far from shopping centres and ensure the installation of metal and explosive detector besides deputation of private security guards in the parking areas with the help of related shopkeepers’ associations. He also directed to depute bomb disposal squads for the checking of suspicious cars parked.
He directed all district and town police officers to set up temporary police reporting centres at all busy shopping centres, which should be equipped with wireless sets, loudspeakers, mega phones and other equipment for announcement and contact in emergency.
He also directed to maintain a register for record of all incidents.
The police chief also directed police officers to ensure the deputation of volunteers in these centres with the help of market committee and conduct surprise checking to ensure the presence of deputed officials at these centres.
He also appealed people to inform police about any suspicious thing around the shopping areas and other public places so that police and bomb disposal squad could immediately reach the spot and control the situation.
He directed that special arrangements should be made for smooth flow of traffic around all busy shopping areas and make alternate routes where necessary.
Jehangir Mirza directed police officers to provide all-out help to judicial magistrate and other officials of city government with magisterial power for controlling the price hike and taking action against profiteers during Ramazan.—PPI
