‘MQM has differences with govt’

Published October 1, 2006

ISLAMABAD, Sept 30: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement had serious differences with the government on the issues of federal resource distribution formula and its handling of the Balochistan situation, according to party’s parliamentary leader in the National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar.

He was talking with newsmen here on Saturday after attending a workshop on ‘forced disappearances’ which was organised by Amnesty International.

Dr Sattar said that despite being part of the government, the party had always called for revising resource distribution formula used by the National Finance Commission besides changing the centralised system of governance because of which 56 per cent of people were deprived of their rights.

He said that the government’s handling of the Balochistan situation had aggravated the situation there. When asked why the party was still a government ally despite differences, he said their differences with opposition parties were deeper.—Online
