KARACHI: Need stressed for effective anti-crime measures
KARACHI, Sept 26: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has stressed the need for effectiveness of measures taken at every level in the efforts to combat crimes throughout the province.
The governor issued directive for meaningful performance by Madadgar 15, special and crime branches, community policing and special cells while chairing a meeting at the Governor’s House. The meeting was attended by Home Adviser Waseem Akhtar, IG Police Jehangir Mirza, Principal Secretary Mohammed Saleem Khan, Secretary Prosecution Ishaq Lashari, Special Secretary Home Rasheed Alam, Special Secretary Javed Hanif, CPLC chief and other officials.
The meeting was informed that a programme on the pattern of call centre had been prepared to streamline the operation of Madadgar 15 on modern lines. Under the programme, immediate response could be given to calls made on 15 and the entire concerned staff and vehicles will remain connected under a coordinated system.
The governor called for finalising the programme and implementing it within one month.
Taking stock of obtaining crime situation in the province, Ishratul Ibad emphasised upon all out measures for elimination of street crimes. He directed that a special line of action be focused in the areas where the crime ratio was high.
Regarding community policing, the home adviser was directed to chalk out a programme in coordination with the city government under Sindh Local Government Ordinance.
The meeting considered security measures to be taken during Ramazan, particularly at mosques and shopping centres. It was informed that the town administrations would assist police in smooth flow of traffic at town levels.
Meanwhile, addressing a joint meeting of the Overseas Chambers of Commerce & Industry and the provincial health department, the governor stressed on steps for transparent and effective inspection system in drug manufacturing companies.
In this regard, he said, there should be no illegal action or act of harassment in the enforcement of relevant laws.
Ishratul Ibad said that strict watch should be kept on those producing fake medicines and carrying out their publicity.
The meeting was attended by Senior Health Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed, Principal Secretary Mohammed Saleem Khan, Health Secretary Dr Naushad
Shaikh and Special Secretary Javed Hanif.
Meanwhile, a delegation comprising Secretary General of Oversees Chambers of Commerce & Industry Adnan Afridi and CEO of Engro Vopak Terminal Ltd. Sheikh Imranul Haq met City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil.
Nasreen Jalil said that the city government was undertaking policies to encourage potential foreign investors to invest in Karachi. She said that Citizen-Community Board was an example of public-private partnership, saying that CCB was a legal way for involving non-elected people into development and non-development projects of the government.
“Through CCBs citizens themselves can initiate their own prosperous projects seeking 80 per cent funds from the government,” she said and explained that 25 residents of any union council, taluka or district council could establish a CCB.
The delegation told the naib nazim if OCC&I and the city government worked as a joint venture for progress of Karachi it could bring positive outcome. It also offered to render services to improve environment.--APP/PPI
