DC demands calamity-hit status for Mirpurkhas

MIRPURKHAS, Sept 11: The Mirpurkhas district council demanded on Monday that the Sindh government should declare the district as calamity-hit area and waive off agriculture loan and taxes including Abiana.

District naib nazim Zafar Kamali presided over the meeting.

The council adopted a resolution after discussing the situation in the district.

The council demanded that the government should conduct aerial anti-mosquito spray to save the people from malaria.

Mujeeb ul Haq said that the district government had neglected union council-7 as only 24 ration bags were given to affected people whereas hundreds of houses were damaged and a number of people were affected due to heavy rains.

Zafarullah Talpur, A.D. Lakho and Fatima Baloch said that health minister Shabbir Qaimkhani and district naib nazim did not visit worst-affected Sindhri and Hussain Bux Mari talukas.

Aslam Qaimkhani, Nawab Younus Talpur, Wazir Mari, Chaudhry Ahsan ul Haq, Ameer Hassan, Ali Mardan Shah, Jaffar Kalro and Shamim Jhundair said that the district was affected by heavy rain as people sustained heavy losses due to devastation of their crops, properties, livestock and lives.

They demanded that the provincial and federal governments should announce special package for rehabilitation and relief of affected people.

They demanded that compensation of Rs150,000 be paid to heir of deceased and Rs50,000 for demolished houses.

They said that owing to the LBOD district suffered heavy losses, therefore preventive measures were needed in future.

They urged the authorities to ensure draining out the stagnant rain and saline water, provide food, ration bags and medical treatment to affected people living at roadside and in relief camps.

They demanded that the district government should provide Rs500,000 to each union council for relief work.

They said that UC nazims be allowed to spend their funds for sending medical teams to affected areas.

They urged the district government to form a committee comprising UC nazims to look after the relief and rescue operation.

The meeting offered Fateha Khwani for departed soul of Nawab Akbar Bugti and people who died during heavy rainfall in the district.
