RAWALPINDI, Sept 3: A 12-year-old boy was killed after being run over by a wagon in Westridge on Sunday, police said. Safdar Ali, 12, was crossing the road when he was hit by a speeding wagon. As a result, Safdar died on the spot while the driver managed to escape.

Meanwhile, a man was kidnapped for Rs20 million ransom by some unidentified persons from Gulraiz Housing Society, police said.

Malik Imran Khaliq, an estate agent, lodged a complaint with the Airport police that some persons came to his office posing as customers and took his son Kamran along with them.

The following day Imran received a telephone call from the kidnappers who informed him that Kamran was in their custody and demanded ransom for his safe release.

POLICE INQUIRY: A top-level police inquiry has been launched into a scuffle between a policeman of Special Branch and armymen guarding Jinnah Public Park.

According to the police, a clash between constable of Special Branch Imran Haider and security guards of Jinnah Park started when the former along with his brother tried to enter the park on Saturday.

A police officer, who requested not to be named, said Imran Haider and his brother were stopped by the armymen on duty at the park who asked them for tickets.

He said perhaps Imran’s brother was without a ticket and as he was stopped by the security guards they started clashing.

The police said Imran Haider sustained injuries and was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital for examination.—Staff Reporter
