KARACHI: Shortage of classrooms, teachers

KARACHI, Sept 3: Keeping in view the basic requirements, school teachers say that for a primary school at least five rooms and as many teachers are a must, but there are many schools in Orangi which are being run even in single room with one teacher.

In the town, as many as 15 schools are being run in one-room building, 11 schools in two-room building, seven in three rooms, 18 in four rooms and 60 in five rooms, while the rest of about 62 schools have enough rooms. Same is the position of the number of teachers, as there are 21 schools having one teacher each. There two teachers each in five schools, three each in four schools, four each in 11 schools, five each in 15 schools.

The total number of students could not be ascertained as the new admissions have started recently and the authorities concerned lack any accurate data in this regard.

In primary schools, at least 250 posts of teachers have been lying vacant for past many months. A very few schools have the Sindhi language teachers.
