CEC urged to bar president from political activities
ISLAMABAD, Aug 20: The People’s Party Parliamentarians has urged the Chief Election Commissioner to take notice of President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s participation in public meetings of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League and its allied parties.
At a meeting held at the residence of party general secretary Raja Pervez Ashraf here on Sunday, PPP leaders said the president should be barred from taking part in political activities.
The opposition leader in the Senate, Mian Raza Rabbani, opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly, Qasim Zia, and the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmad Khuro, were among the participants.
Sources said the meeting reviewed the current political situation in the country.
The meeting said youths who would reach the age of 18 years till the final phase of the 2007 general election should be given the right to vote. It said people should be allowed to vote if they presented documents such as domicile, driving licence and other certificates, besides National Identity Card.
The party said steps should be taken to curb rigging in the next election.—Online
