Electricity wire stolen

SAHIWAL, Aug 3: Unidentified thieves stole electricity wire near Chak 84/5-L on Wednesday night as a result of which a vast area plunged into darkness.

Mepco officials claimed that the stolen wire was worth Rs138,000.

Meanwhile, the transformer of Chak 150/9-L burnt and Mepco could not replace it even after 24 hours.

Residents of both the areas staged protest and demanded immediate restoration of electricity.

HOUSE ROBBED: Four robbers looted the house of an expatriate in Chak 7/14-L.

Javed Ahmad had gone abroad in connection with his job while his family was residing here. The robbers sneaked into the house and decamped with cash and ornaments worth Rs570,000.

Kassowal police registered a case on the report of Kalsoom, the wife of Javed.

DEATH: The additional district and session’s judge on Thursday convicted four people of murder while acquitted nine others by giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Maher Ali and Ghulam Mustafa were sentenced to death with Rs200,000 fine. Their accomplice Kaali was handed down 25 years rigorous imprisonment and Ghulam Murtaza 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment with Rs175,000 fine.

The court acquitted Nazar Muhammad, Mansab Ali, Haji Yaqoob, Anwar, Qutub Din, Akhtar, Zakir, Manzoor and Ghulam Qadir.

According to prosecution, the convicts killed Muhammad Yaqoob and injured Ghulam Farid on Dec 22, 2005, in Chak 10/14-L.
