KOHAT, July 14: A couple booked under the Hudood Ordinance were married in the district prison on the orders of district and sessions judge Syed Yahya Gillani on Friday, and later released.

Ibrahim and ‘Miss S’, who had left their homes a few days ago, were arrested on a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents. They were released by additional district and sessions judge Fazle Subhan, but the girl refused to go home fearing that her parents would kill her.

The district and sessions judge on Friday asked the legal adviser of the Women Crises Centre, Advocate Mussarat Shafi, and jail authorities to make arrangements for their marriage in prison.

After tying the knot, the couple left for honeymoon.

WOMEN CONSTABLES TERMINATED: The district police officer terminated the services of two women constables on Friday for delinquent behaviour and involvement in immoral activities.

An order issued by the office of the DPO said that the women, Nadia and Tania, had been given several showcause notices.

VEHICLE STOLEN: Armed men deprived a man of his vehicle after drugging him on Friday.

Mohammad Shafique told the Gumbat police that some people had hired his vehicle near the Bannu Gate police checkpost. On reaching Bado Shrine, they offered him tea and biscuits. As soon as he drank the tea he fell unconscious. The men immediately drove off in his vehicle.
