ISLAMABAD, July 14: An employee of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has alleged that security personnel have robbed him and his wife just 50 yards from the route where the president’s convoy was moving.
Syed Hyder Abbas, from PIA engineering department at Islamabad International Airport, in his letter to secretary of interior ministry, director generals of Inter Services Intelligence, Intelligence Bureau, Military Intelligence, and Inspector General of Punjab Police said that the incident was a serious security lapse during the President’s movement.
He said location of the robbery indicated that security men were involved in the incident as when VVIP movement took place only security people were present in the areas and no one from outside dared to do such an act, he said, adding, that “if we assume that the robbers were form outside then God help our security system.”
He said that he along with his wife was going to home after attending a marriage ceremony at around 12:30am on June 28. He was diverted from Rawal Chowk due to VVIP movement on a pitch dark road parallel to Air Port Road.
Some 50 yards from the road junction of PAF Air Base with Airport Road two persons riding on a motorcycle intercepted his vehicle and pulled out pistols and snatched cash Rs2,500, 12 gold bangles, two mobile sets, credit cards, driving licence and service card. All the valuables, including cash, were worth Rs69,500, Mr Abbas said.
He alleged the robbers were no one except people from security squad as he observed that they were driving without number plate motorcycle. Both have soldier’s type hair cuts and body and having pistols of service pattern.
He also lodged a complaint with the Airport police station Rawalpindi about the incident. Police registered a case and investigations were in progress.
