FAISALABAD, July 14: Gastroenteritis has claimed six lives in a far-flung area of Jaranwala Town during the last three days, while another 50 have been admitted to clinics and a makeshift hospital.

According to information available here, some 50 people, including children, were affected by gastroenteritis after taking underground water in Roshan Shali village of Lundianwala, some 55km from here and 20km from Jaranwala Town, during the last three days. Three of them died in their houses while the others were taken to private clinics and a makeshift hospital where three of them expired.

Moondan Bibi (35), Nausher (22) and Bashir (38) were killed on Wednesday, Haleema Bibi (29) and Imran (7) on Thursday and Ali Suleman (11) on Friday.

The deaths created a panic among the residents of Lundianwala and they informed the higher authorities.

Following information, city district nazim Rana Zahid Tauseef along with a team of the health department rushed to the spot.

A makeshift hospital was established at the house of a landlord where patients are being given medical treatment.

The district nazim has ordered a probe into the matter and asked the district health officer to find the causes behind the gastro breakout.

GUJRANWALA: Another child died of gastroenteritis while more than 20 other people were hospitalised with similar complaints on Friday.

Reports said Abdul Rehman, of Katchi Patu Mand, was suffering from disease and was admitted to the DHQ hospital the previous night. He breathed his last early on Friday.
