KARACHI: 40-hour-long agony

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 28: Despite lapse of more than 40 hours, the KESC failed to restore power supply to Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block-4/A and Metroville-III.

“It is the height of the callousness of the management of the KESC that they have not bothered even to explain the reasons behind that long disruption in power supply,” an angry resident told Dawn.

Residents of both localities were faced with severe hardships, as they were without electricity since Tuesday morning that also affected the supply of water.

In the absence of electricity since 7am on Tuesday, children and women were the worst sufferers.

People continued to make frantic calls to the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation’s complaint centres and 118 but they could not get any response.

As a result, some enraged people in Metroville-III gathered outside the area complaint centre of KESC late on Tuesday night and ransacked it.

Spokesman for the KESC said that the area was deprived of the power supply owing to a cable fault that had occurred on Tuesday early morning.

KESC engineers and workers went to the area to repair the fault but the anger of people in shape of violence forced the staff to leave the place which caused inordinate delay in repair.

The spokesman claimed that the fault was rectified at around 9:30pm and the power supply to the affected area would be restored late in the night.
