Fazl has several reservations on charter

ISLAMABAD, June 14: Expressing reservations over the charter of democracy signed by former prime ministers Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif, the leader of opposition in the National Assembly and MMA secretary-general Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that several clauses of the charter are contrary to principles of democracy.

Talking to newsmen in his chamber in the Parliament House, he said the main reservations were about sections in the charter on Shariat Courts and some other issues which were contrary to democratic norms.

These reservations should be addressed, he said, adding that discussions were being held on the issue.— Online
