KARACHI, June 14: The city government has planned to construct inter-city bus termini at Deh Bhatti Aameri on the Super Highway and at Razzaqabad in Malir Town on the National Highway on a Build-Operate-Transfer basis.
An official told Online that the city government had already completed 80 per cent work of an inter-city bus terminus at Yousuf Goth in Baldia Town near the RCD Highway from its own budget.
The city government will shift Quetta-bound inter-city buses here, which at present are illegally parked in different parts of the city and create bottlenecks in the smooth flow of traffic.
Official said that the city government had made a comprehensive plan to shift inter-city buses from residential and commercial areas to isolated places. At present, over 900 buses are parked in various areas creating a serious nuisance for the citizens. For this purpose, the city government has planned to construct inter-city bus terminus at three gateways to shift illegal inter-city bus termini from there. Earlier, the city government planned to construct these termini from its own budget but after interest shown by local and foreign companies, the city government decided to build them on BOT basis.
According to the BOT plans, the private company would construct bus terminus at Razzaqabad, Malir Town. There are 10-acres available with a capacity to park 150 buses. The city government would shift the buses bound for the interior areas of Sindh here, official said.
“An inter-city bus terminus will also be built at Deh Bhatti Aam Aameri near the Super Highway on BOT. The inter-city buses for upcountry will be shifted to this place,” he said.
The private companies will have to construct terminals on international standards and bus shelters, waiting rooms, washrooms, tuck shops, workshops, ticket counter and hotel will also be built.—Online
