President’s election in Sept 2007: Mushahid

ISLAMABAD, June 12: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League’s Secretary-General, Senator Mushahid Hussain, said on Monday that presidential election would be held in September 2007. Talking to a private TV channel at Parliament House, he said that present assemblies would act as electoral college for the president.

He was confident that President Musharraf would be easily re-elected for another term. General elections would be held after the presidential polls, he said.

Mr Hussain said that present assemblies would complete tenure in November 2007.

Answering a question, he denied any contacts with the leadership of the opposition PML-N. However, he acknowledged government contacts with PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto in the past. —PPI
