WASHINGTON, June 9: The father of Nicholas Berg, a US contractor believed to have been beheaded by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Iraq, sees no good coming from Al-Zarqawi’s death.
“I see more death coming out of Zarqawi’s death,” Michael Berg told National Public Radio after learning a US air strike had killed the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq.
“Vengeance was Zarqawi’s way, vengeance is George Bush’s way, and it’s an endless cycle. If someone doesn’t stand up and say, ‘Stop the endless cycle of revenge,’ it never will stop and we’ll live in violence for eternity,” he said.
Militants posted the video of American businessman Nick Berg being beheaded. It’s believed Zarqawi is the man holding the knife. At the time, insurgents said the killing was punishment for the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal.
Today, Berg’s father, who lives in Wilmington, Delaware, is running for Congress on an anti-war agenda.
Mr Berg told Fox News he was not happy that Zarqawi was dead.
