Joint efforts for peace in Waziristan urged

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, June 3: Combined efforts of all groups concerned were needed to restore peace in Waziristan agencies, says NWFP Governor Ali Mohammad Jan Orakzai.

“It is our joint responsibility and we have to get it right together,” said the governor while talking to a delegation of MNAs from the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas.

A handout issued here on Saturday quoted the governor as saying that the basic causes of unrest in Waziristan agencies needed to be addressed to regain the people’s confidence.

He said that the chaos was not conducive for development process, which suffered setbacks anywhere the trouble persisted. He urged active cooperation of elected representatives and peace-loving tribesmen in this regard.

Fata MNAs highlighted certain problems in the meeting and expressed their concern over the situation in Waziristan and feared it could spread to other agencies.
