SC asks Pemra chief to vacate land

ISLAMABAD, June 2: The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to immediately hand over possession of an orchard farm to its legitimate owners.

Led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, a three- member bench hearing a suo-motu case initiated on a news report, however, said both parties were free to avail legal remedies.

According to the news item appeared in an English newspaper, Pemra chairman had allegedly occupied a land located in the orchard scheme but the police was acting as a silent spectator despite complaints filed by the legitimate owners.
