KARACHI, May 25: Two-day trials to select promising under-21 golfers from Sindh will be held at Karachi Golf Club from June 9, secretary of Sindh Golf Association Asad I. A. Khan said on Thursday.
Ten to 12 young players will be selected under Pakistan Golf Federation programme to groom them for future.
The trials will be played over 36-holes. Around 70 to 80 golfers from across the city, including teenager caddies serving at various clubs, are expected to appear in the trials.
Ten players will be selected from each province and the federal territory. They will be trained in a training camp in Islamabad for which dates will be announced later.
During the coaching camp, PGF will select five best golfers and provide them monthly stipend ranging from Rs3,000 to 5,000.
The basic purpose and objective of the plan is to prepare a pool of best golfers to represent Pakistan in various junior and senior events.
The SGA secretary said besides this they would also conduct three-day trials over 54-holes to select 15 ‘B’ category professionals for various national circuits.
He said that as per rules top 40 to 50 professionals across the country were exempted from trials while provincial association select 15 players to send them to professional circuit.—APP
