Africa is the continent of future: Kasuri

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 25: Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri on Thursday termed Africa as ‘the continent of future’, saying it represented a huge market with unlimited economic potential.

Speaking at a reception held to mark the Africa Unity Day, he said Africa was an important trading partner of Pakistan.

He said Pakistan’s exports to Africa in the years 2004-2005 stood at $801.6 million which fell well below the actual potential. He said steps were being taken to enhance trade. The EPB and chambers of commerce were devising ways to boost exports, he added.

He said the business community was being mobilised to look at Africa for new opportunities. “With a population of 750 million, Africa is a market that cannot be ignored,” he said.

The minister said Pakistan wanted to develop strong ties with African countries.
