QUETTA, May 25: Former chief minister and leader of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) Sardar Akhtar Mengal has filed a petition in the Balochistan High Court challenging the government’s move to cancel his arms licences.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani, on Thursday served notices on respondents – the federal interior ministry and the provincial home department.
The petitioner pleaded that the federal interior ministry and the home department had without any cause or reason cancelled his weapons’ licenses.
The petitioner prayed to restore his weapons’ licenses.
The next hearing would be held after two weeks.
PROTEST: Marri tribesmen staged a demonstration here on Wednesday in protest against military operation in Kohlu and Dera Bugti and arrests of Baloch political workers.
They urged the United Nations and other international organisations to take notice of the excesses of the government.
The protestors assembled outside the press club and chanted anti-government slogans. They were demanded release of the political workers.
A pamphlet distributed by the demonstrators claimed that since 2000, hundreds of Baloch youths had either been arrested by intelligence agencies or were missing.
They claimed that the Baloch people were being victimised because they were resisting the government actions.
