Man booked for making bogus claim

By Abdul Sami Paracha

KOHAT, May 24: Local police booked a man who claimed to be Imam Mehdi after MNA Mufti Ibrar Sultan and other clerics issued an edict against him on Wednesday.

The case was registered against him under section 195-A of the PPC, which carries a minimum of 7 years and maximum of life imprisonment, for making a false claim with the intention of defaming religion and offending public.

Sher Azam, a resident of Gumbat, a village on Rawalpindi road 30 kilometres from here, had announced last week that in his dream he had been told that he was the Imam Mehdi and that this was one of the sings of the dooms day.

People questioned credibility of his claim and asked him to show something extraordinary to prove his claim. He told the people that if his claim proved wrong his wife would stand divorced.

According to information, his brother-in-law, Abdullah, brought the matter before clerics to know if his sister stood divorced.

The clerics summoned the claimant and after detailed questioning declared that his claim was false, adding that he did not have even one of 52 signs mentioned in Qurran and Hadith of Imam Mehdi (AS). They also said that his wife stood divorced.
