HYDERABAD, May 21: The president of the Sindh Chamber of Agriculture, Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah, has said that the people of Sindh will never accept construction of the Kalabagh dam.
He told the executive committee of the chamber at its meeting held here on Sunday that he had made it clear to the World Bank (Pakistan mission).
He said that the World Bank team had contacted him on Saturday and asked for his point of view on the Kalabagh dam.
He said that the team also asked him whether the dam would be acceptable without canals.
He said that his reply was that he was not prepared to accept any guarantees from Punjab and the president as no guarantees had ever been honoured.
Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah said that he also told the team that he was prepared to convince the Board of Directors of the World Bank in Washington not to sanction funds for the Kalabagh dam.
The meeting took exception to the statement of Sindh chief minister that Punjab was not stealing Sindh’s water.
It reminded the Sindh chief minister that an Irsa team had inspected 200 kilometres of the Indus River and gave a report that Punjab was stealing 4,000 cusecs water daily.
It said that the report was published on May 19 issue of a newspaper.
The meeting demanded that the Sindh chief minister should stop the theft of Indus waters and also file a criminal case against Punjab.
