Official killed in Jandola

By Alamgir Bhittani

TANK, May 14: An official of the South Waziristan Agency political administration was gunned down at his residence in the Jandola area on Saturday, officials said.

They said that seven unidentified armed men overpowered two tribal Khasadars, guarding an official building, and broke into the house of Muharar Sultan Shamenkhel Mahsud.

The armed men opened fire and killed the low rank official on the spot.

While escaping in a car, they whisked away the Khasadars but set them free outside the town.

No group has accepted responsibility for the killing but the authorities believe that militants’ involvement in the murder cannot be ruled out.

Pazir Gul adds from Miramshah: A paramilitary fort came under rocket attack in North Waziristan Agency on Saturday night, sources said.

They said that at least eight rocket were fired on Datakhel Fort, about 25 kilometres west of Miramshah. However, no casualty was reported.

They said that security forces retaliated and targeted suspected positions in the surrounding areas.

This is the first rocket attack on the security forces in the volatile area since local Taliban announced unilateral ceasefire for 11 days before the beginning of a Tablighi congregation on May 3.

Sources said that suspected militants also fired rockets on the residence of a pro-government tribal elder, Malik Sadaat Khan, in the Esokhel area near Mirali on Saturday. The attack partially damaged the house.
