KARACHI, May 3: Soon after the Sindh Assembly session was prorogued amid pandemonium on Wednesday, several provincial ministers accused the opposition of not being sincere to the people of Sindh and resolving their problems.

Addressing a news conference, they accused the opposition of creating a rumpus and forcing the chair to prorogue the session.

“They were, in fact, playing a point-scoring game just to cause embarrassment to the treasury benches,” said ministers Chaudhry Iftikhar, Irfanullah Marwat, Nadir Akmal Leghari, Shoaib Bokhari and MPA Shakir Ali, reminding the opposition that there was no room for such a game to be played in the democratic system.

Their undemocratic act has created a bad impression about legislators, they said.

They said the opposition, which had requisitioned this session, had never tried to ensure quorum and this proved their non-serious attitude.

They held the opposition responsible for the rumpus during the Wednesday deliberations, saying that the rumpus had been caused by Syed Qaim Ali Shah’s words ‘Jamhooriat ka Janaza’. They termed the senior politician’s remark about democracy ‘unparliamentary and derogatory’.

They pointed out that Mr Shah was a senior parliamentarian and had also held the office of the Sindh chief minister in the past, but his remarks had exposed the opposition’s thinking about the elected house.

The ministers further stated that Wednesday was the private members’ day but the opposition appeared not interested in the proceeding.
