Singhs plot UAE’s defeat

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, May 1: Pacemen Rudra Pratap Singh and Vikram Singh shared the spoils evenly as India ‘A’ continued their unbeaten run in the EurAsia Cricket Series with a 126-run rout of UAE at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Both picked up five-wicket hauls as UAE crashed to 70 all out in the 16th over while chasing a modest target of 197.

In fact, the Indians too struggled for runs after choosing to bat first. They lost openers Robin Uthappa, Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Venugopal Rao with only 20 runs on the board. All three fell to opening bowler Ali Asad.

Wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik and Rohit Sharma, however, restored parity by sharing a fourth-wicket partnership of 123 in shade over 24 overs.

Karthik stroked five fours and two sixes in scoring 75 off 87 deliveries, a knock that earned the Man-of-the-Match award.

After the departure of Sharma, who hit a 68-ball 56, including four boundaries, and Karthik, India ‘A’ lost their last six wickets for just 44 runs.

Sri Lanka ‘A’ also maintained their winning sequence in the six-nation tournament by thrashing Holland ‘A’ convincingly by 157 runs on Saturday.
