PM wants hunt for culprits to continue: Nishtar Park bombing

KARACHI, April 29: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday said the government was determined to get to the bottom of the Nishtar Park tragedy, “which by all available indications was caused by a suicide bomber with a view to fanning religious and political tension in the country”.

Presiding over a meeting held to review the law and order situation in Sindh, the prime minister asked the administration not to slacken their efforts to trace the culprits and redouble their efforts to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

He said that more resources would be provided to security agencies to do their job in an efficient manner.

He said the heinous crime was caused by enemies of the country to destabilise it and added that people behind this incident were the enemies of Islam also.

The meeting was informed that the Sindh administration and federal agencies were pursuing the matter vigorously and had already got some evidence which would lead to the culprits involved in the crime.

Mr Aziz praised the resilience, determination and the spirited manner in which the Karachiites had responded to the blast.

He also appreciated the manner in which the civil society, political parties and relevant government organisations had faced the tragedy and helped restore normalcy in the city.

The prime minister was apprised of various short and long-term measures taken by the provincial government to improve the law and order situation by revamping the monitoring and information gathering mechanisms in a timely and efficient manner.

The law and order situation in rural Sindh was found to be satisfactory.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Home Minister Abdul Rauf Siddiqui, the city nazim and other officials attended the meeting.
