Water rotation opposed

By Our Correspondent

KHAIRPUR, April 29: The Khairpur Abadgar Ittehad staged a protest demonstration outside the press club on Saturday against the water rotation programme for 30 channels of the district.

The protesting growers led by President KAI Syed Shakir Ali Shah and other KAI office-bearers, said that with cotton sowing season starting in the district in May the rotation programme would inflict heavy losses on them.

They alleged that the programme was meant only for the poor and helpless and it was just a means to provide water to influential growers.

They feared that if the programme continued into May, it would leave thousands of acres of land without getting prepared to sow cotton.

The protesters condemned the construction of any dam on river Indus. Water was being stopped illegally at Chashma and Jehlum canals creating an artificial shortage in Sindh, they alleged.
